Richard Johnson

Richard Johnson was one of Rev. King's first six graduates. In 1856, Richard attended medical school in Edinburgh, Scotland and became a doctor. Young Mr. Johnson proved to be not only and excellent scholar, but an ambassador for the Buxton Mission School abroad as well. In one note that Rev. King received regarding Richard's conduct it was written, "A number like him would roll back the tide of obloquy from the race." The following statements included an inquiry for the sum needed to send a Buxton boy through college.

When Rev. King travelled to Great Britain, Richard Johnson assisted in raising funds to build a new Presbyterian Church (1858).  That church now known as St. Andrews United Church, is still serving as a house of worship.

Eventually, Dr. Johnson became a missionary to Africa.
