Winter ended with a bang at the Black History Month Social, hosted by the Buxton Historical Society on February 6th. Guests enjoyed Black jeopardy, trivia pursuit, decadent desserts, and viewed the launch of our "Paper Trail" exhibit. Many thanks to those who attended this event (it was packed!) and deepest appreciation to those who organized/hosted this function.
The museum has had a busy Spring - not only with an increase in tours and visitors, but the museum hosted an Easter Egg Hunt with the North Buxton Community Club, Next Generation, and North Buxton Community Church. Many thanks to Renee Handsor for organizing this event and collecting prizes from Giant Tiger (store #154). Thanks also to Georgiana Gardner who organized a "trading post" and supervised a colouring contest. The community of North Buxton was delighted to welcome the nearly 70 children who participated and due to the success of this event there's sure to be another Hunt in 2011!
Shortly after the Easter Egg Hunt a violent wind storm occured and the Picnic Shelter located on the park grounds collapsed! Thankfully, nobody was hurt in this accident and the community of North Buxton is grateful that this incident occured hours AFTER the Easter Egg Hunt! The Municipality of Chatham Kent has graciously offered to replace/rebuild the Picnic Shelter for the enjoyment of local citizens and visitors to the community. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the new Picnic Shelter will be open for the summer season!
On April 23rd of Volunteer Appreciation Week the North Buxton Community Club, Next Generation, and Buxton Historical Society hosted a Wine & Cheese as a small expression of our appreciation. The museum owes it’s existence to the people of Buxton who volunteered their time and talent to build, furnish and operate the museum for many years. We were happy that so many of those generous and caring people who have given of themselves helping on tours, operating the gift shop, landscaping, assisting at special events, hosting Bingo’s, providing general building maintenance, and the list goes on!

We are also gearing up for our 1st Annual Golf Tournament on June 26th (registration closes June 1 - register online a.s.a.p.!). Not to mention, we've been holding joint Homecoming planning meetings with the Next Generation and North Buxton Community Club!
