CANADA POST RELEASES
ABRAHAM SHADD STAMP

Joyce in Africa

Joyce Shadd Middleton

Joyce Middleton, Buxton Historical Society President, represented the Buxton Museum at the Canada Post unveiling of two commemorative stamps in Vancouver, B.C..  The program entitled, "The Courage to Make a Difference", hosted by the National Congress of Black Women Foundation on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009.

Mrs. Middleton created a presentation of Abraham Doras Shadd to provide at this assembly, in her official capacity as BHS President and on behalf of the Shadd family, as his great-great-granddaughter. The Buxton Historical Society was proud to have Joyce represent us on this auspicious occasion.

Back In Buxton...

unveiling

James Shreve and Dorothy Shreve

We celebrated our Black History Month program with a meaningful unveiling of our own at the North Buxton Community Church, following a savoury "soul food" dinner.

We believe that Mr. Shadd would have been most pleased by the turn out of his descendents to honour his many accomplishments.

See pictures from the Soul Food Dinner.
