William Hooper
Early Settler of Buxton

George Bolivar ShreveWilliam Hooper was born on June 30, 1840 in Union County, Kentucky. His parents were Julie Ann (Chipman) and Alfred Hooper, his siblings were James, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Dempsey. When William was eleven he made the long journey to the Elgin Settlement with his family and lived on land his father purchased on the Twelfth concession.

On November 15, 1864, William enlisted in the 14th USCT Tennessee and served during the Civil War. After his discharge, he returned home to Buxton and married Senneth Ann Burns on August 9, 1866. She was daughter of Senneth and Samuel Burns and the step-daughter of Joseph J. Ellis.

William and Senneth raised five children together; Samuel, James, Julie Ann, Wilhemine, & William "Arthur".  William purchased land at Conc. 13, Lot 9 and Conc. 12, Lot 9.

William Hooper died on April 28, 1928 and was buried in the Methodist cemetery.  His descendants still reside in Buxton.
