Sarah Scott was born in Indiana around 1846. In 1858, Sarah moved with her family to the Elgin Settlement. Sarah was eighteen when she married Benjamin Brooks on July 21, 1864. Documentation of their marriage registration, lists James Sims of Buxton as a witness. Benjamin was the son of Lucy and John Brooks, he enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War in 1863.
When Benjamin returned safely home from his military service, he and Sarah began their family - having seven children (Agnes, Gamaliel, Caroline, Benjamin, William, Mary & John) and raising Lucinda Brooks. They lived on the 12th Concession at Lot 6 and attended the Methodist Church. When Sarah passed away or where she was buried is not known.
It is likely Sarah's family were related to Isaac and Jamima Scott who left the Lick Creek Settlement in Indiana for the Dawn Settlement and later relocated to Buxton.
There are still descendents of Sarah Scott (Brooks) residing in Buxton and local communities to this day.
